Discover Senior School

Abercorn Senior School holds all children from Year 3 up until Year 10 at present in the 2023/24 academic year.

The Senior School curriculum is varied and appropriately challenging. We recognise that individuals learn at different rates and continually adapt our teaching to offer suitable challenges, so that all our pupils will grow in their confidence and enjoyment of learning. We want our pupils to be happy, secure and confident, and make excellent progress in all aspects of their school life.

We have a dedicated team of teachers who are committed to helping each student achieve their full potential. They are passionate about their subjects and/ or the year group they teach and strive to create engaging and stimulating learning experiences that inspire our students to think critically and creatively. Subjects are taught through a Creative Curriculum approach, where learning in subjects such as Science, Art, History and Geography are linked in the context of an exciting topic, and English and Maths are taught every day.

Our pupils benefit from a wide range of subjects taught by our specialist teachers. These include, Computing, French, Music, Yoga, Drama, Swimming, PE and Games. ICT is additionally used to enrich learning in many areas of the curriculum in the classroom. STEM and Art Weeks celebrate subjects, with pupils enjoying fun activities and whole school projects.

At our school, we recognise that every student is unique, and we aim to provide a nurturing environment where they feel safe, valued, and supported. Our aim is to ensure every pupil is treated as an individual, feels valued and reaches their full potential. We encourage our students to take risks, make mistakes, and learn from them, as we believe that this is how they can develop the resilience and perseverance that is so important for success in life. This is why we aim at making our GCSE pathways as varied and flexible as possible.

Senior School Curriculum

Our aim is to provide the very best start to every pupils journey and everything has been designed to create a vibrant and nurturing hub for learning.

Though closely aligned to the National Curriculum, as an independent school Abercorn has the freedom to develop our own unique program.

Our Senior School provides a rich and diverse curriculum which is both challenging and rewarding. Pupils are taught in purpose built facilities by subject specialists enabling them to tailor learning & ensure each and every pupil reaches their fullest potential.

A form teacher provides the main pastoral link between home and school and helps to ensure a seamless transition through year groups.

Pupils enjoy a topic based approach where work in subjects such as Science, Art, History and Geography are imaginatively linked. Pupils are encouraged to apply learning across subjects, think critically and independently and to problem solve, stretching and extending their abilities.
