Choral Day at King’s Canterbury
On Thursday 28th September, 9 members of the choir were privileged to attend a choral day run for prep school pupils by senior music staff at the King’s School in Canterbury. The group gathered at St Pancras for the 55 minute train ride down to the school (which is walking distance from the station) and is thus very accessible from London.
Their school chapel is Canterbury Cathedral itself, so pupils spent the day in this magnificent setting as they learned the various pieces. The King’s hospitality got the thumbs up as lunch was a veritable feast. (Got to keep the performers happy!)
At the concert, pupils performed Elgar’s ‘Ave Verum’, Howell’s ‘Like as the hart desireth…’ and Bob Chilcott’s ‘Irish Blessing’. Rousing choral pieces which will have enriched our pupils’ experience of communal singing greatly. Thank you to Mr Hopwood, Mr Radley and 5 supporting parents who made this uplifting vocal experience so memorable.
