Admissions Frequently Asked Questions
All your questions concerning Application & Admissions at Abercorn School.
We hold termly Open Mornings which give parents the opportunity to see all of our school sites. To book a place for our next open morning or arrange an individual tour of the school please complete our online enquiry form.
We recommend early registration as our places are offered according to the date of registration, however we do offer priority places to children of existing pupils. Applications for the Nursery are best made soon after birth. You can register your child by completing a registration form and returning this to us via post or email along with the registration fee of £225 per child and a copy of your child's birth certificate. If you are a foreign national please also enclose a copy of your child's passport and any relevant visa documents.
There is a registration fee of £225 payable upon registration. The registration fee is non-refundable and ensures your child a place on the waiting list.
(If you are applying at a late stage in the process for an oversubscribed year group we can offer a reduced waiting list fee of £75. Should a place become available and be offered to your child the remainder of the registration fee would be payable).
Approximately one year before the desired entry date, we will contact you to confirm whether you are still looking for your child to join Abercorn School. Subject to availability for our Early Years, we will send out an offer letter and an acceptance form. Places in Years 1-3 are subject to a successful taster day and children entering Years 4-8 are asked to sit an assessment in English and Maths.
On accepting the offer of a place for your child we will ask you for a deposit, currently £5500, which is needed in order to secure the place.
The acceptance deposit will be repaid during the first week of the term after the pupil leaves Abercorn. This deposit should not be taken to be payment in advance of school fees. Please refer to our Terms and Conditions section C13.
Will we be expected to contribute to a school development fund throughout my child's time at Abercorn?
No, we incorporate all our expenditure and development within the fees.
Yes, for our existing pupils whose parents may be in need.
No, because we feel it is only fair to treat all parents equally.
The cost of educating a child is similar whatever the age. Obviously there is always the need for a classroom with the appropriate furniture, light, and heat etc. Younger children require a higher staff to pupil ratio which is compensated by the extra costs incurred in supplying the older pupils with the appropriate specialist textbooks and equipment.
