The study of English equips each pupil with lifelong skills  that encourage a love of reading, an appreciation of literature and the ability to communicative effectively, through both the written and spoken word.

By the end of Year 3, before joining Portland Place Abercorn pupils will have consolidated their learning in five key areas; reading, creative writing, grammar, comprehension and speaking & listening.

English studies are not confined to the classroom. At Abercorn we take advantage of all that London has to offer, from theatre visits to Shaksepeare trips and the the opera in Holland Park. The children are also encouraged to develop an appreciation of literature, through the medium of film.

As children progress through the school, they build upon the basic skills in order to meet the demands of the Common Entrance curriculum. Exposure to many different learning experiences within the subject will enable children to continue to develop their life long love of English.
