At Abercorn School a love and appreciation of music is encouraged for all our pupils.

The classes and inclusion of music into the curriculum are designed to enrich and enhance learning, channelling musical skill and responses to music through the different areas of study. Improvisation, composition, performance, listening, movement and ICT are all elements we include, demonstrating the breadth of interest that music can impact.

Practical music making is strongly encouraged at Abercorn and as part of this all our Year 1 to 4 students learn to play the recorder and all Year 5 to 8 students learn to play the clarinet. Through this practical music making, the eight major elements of music can be applied at the same time as learning the theory.

Singing is also another focus of the department with a Junior and Senior Choir which perform throughout the year in school and out in the local community and students are actively encouraged to identify and hone their own musical potential supported by class lessons, school recitals "Soiree's" and productions and expand their instruction into private music lessons in a wide range of instruments if desired.

The respect for one another amongst pupils, and between pupils and staff is a strength of the school.
