Born and raised in New York and San Francisco, Andrea was educated at Radcliffe College, Harvard University, The University of California, Berkeley and King’s College, London where she pursued undergraduate and graduate studies in Mathematics.
Andrea became the first woman teacher at St. Paul’s Boys’ School and then again at King’s College School in London. She also spent a year as an investment analyst with Quilter, Hilton, and Goodison. She temporarily retired to have her six children but returned to education with her first major school project, the foundation of Abercorn School in 1987.
Based on the success of Abercorn and her knowledge of the US system and the NY market, Andrea opened The British International School of New York in 2006.
She intends to build a national chain of British International Schools in the United States and is also looking at selected international locations.
Abercorn School is delighted to welcome Mr. John Clarke to their Board as Chairman.
Since 2012 John has been a legal Partner at Stone King a highly ranked legal firm in the UK focusing on the Education sector, before which he headed the education and employment teams at both Bevan Brittan LLP and Rickerbys LLP.
John is described as “concise and extremely user friendly” and his clients range from Universities to modest prep schools and include both charitable and privately managed schools and colleges.
Over the past decade John has worked with both Abercorn School and it's sister school The British International School of New York, and was a natural choice for Chair given his wealth of experience on schools and governance.
Educated in London at St. Pauls’ Girl’s School, Abigail attended the University of Manchester where she completed her BA in Linguistics. She undertook a Masters degree in Marketing and Management in London, graduating in 2000.
Following her MA, Abigail worked for various Advertising agencies including Publicis before moving ‘client-side’ as a Brand Manager for L’Oreal in London. After two years she moved to New York with L’Oreal to assist in the launch of a new cosmetics line for the company.
Looking for a change away from consumer goods and a move into a more strategic role in the family business, Abigail joined Abercorn's sister school The British International School of New York as Strategic Director in 2006 where she remained until 2013, before returning to London with Abercorn School. She returned to New York in 2016 and is now Deputy Chief Executive of both BIS-NY and Abercorn School in London.
Abigail has two children, and is a proud parent at The British International School of New York.
Sheila joins the IBS Board with a wealth of knowledge gained from extensive experience as a partner in a London based top twenty firm of chartered accountants. Her professional connections with the school in London go back over many years.
Sheila is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales (FCA) and currently operates her own practice acting for owner managed businesses and private clients. Sheila lives in Dorset.
David Morse has been associated with the Abercorn Schools for a number of years initially as the Founding Headmaster of our sister school, the British International School of New York and most recently as Head of Abercorn School from September 2010 until August 2014. He is a graduate of Durham and Bath Universities specialising in Earth Sciences and Sports Studies. David has been a Head for many years and has a wealth of experience in a variety of schools both in the UK and abroad. He is a member of the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools and has held memberships of the ISA and COBIS at previous schools.
He and his wife Sue are blessed with two children James and Emma who both attended school at Oundle, and are now studying at University in Cambridge and Bristol. David has a great sense of humour and enjoys cricket and golf and walking his dog "Abi".
